media studies

What did you enjoy / dislike about the process? Over the last six weeks of doing media studies i enjoyed playing with new apps and making cool little skits, I disliked how long they took to make. What challenges did you face and how did you overcome these? a challenge i faceed was me and my first group were split up so our good idea was gone. I didnt do work for like a week after that cause I was angry then I got into a new group and made a stop motion video with a chicken. What would you change if you were to do it again? i would change how many people I work with and only work with two people and tell the others to go away while we were trying to do it:) What other insights did you have while participating in Media Studies this rotation? I did not know movies were made out of stop motion but i watched one and it was very cool.

Street art by Erika Pearce

This picture was taken from the website:

https://www.teaomaori.news/miss-universe-nz-features-giant-maori-mural

What is the significance of the objects and characters?

This mural shows a Maori girl who is holding an extinct Huia bird in her hand. The girl looks very serious and as if she is trying to communicate with the viewer as she is looking at us. She could possibly be telling us to save New Zealand forests etc. so that no more species get extinct.

What is the significance of the colours used?

We can see four colours in this painting, blue, orange, green and black. All these colours are believed to have different symbolical meanings. Blue- peace, green- nature, orange- warning colour and black- sad.

Why is the location of the artwork important?

This artwork is located in a CBD carpark where hundreds of people can see it everyday. Everyone can see it, no matter if they are rich or poor, street art is for everyone.

Comment on the artwork by the artist:

Erika Pearce: “It’s a warning, message and lesson to be learned that these beautiful birds have become extinct due to our carelessness and our greed.”
